Riders from all around the world are taking part in the first ever FIM Touring Challenge. The fourth event in the calendar took place on the east coast of Japan on 5 and 6 August. Run under the aegis of the Motorcycle Federation of Japan (MFJ), the Tohoku Revival Challenge covers the whole month of August with a ride around the country taking in areas affected by 2011 Tsunami, supporting the victims’ families and keeping the spirit of solidarity and social awareness alive.
On the first weekend more than 260 riders from all around Japan visited the Shibata district close to Sendai city. They were hosted in the SUGO Circuit and given the chance to do a lap of honour on the track. Then they moved to Yuriagi in Miyagi District, one of the areas most heavily affected by the Tsunami, where reconstruction works are still on going and the population is living in temporary accommodation. The riders visited the disaster memorial and attended a local folklore-style musical entertainment.
The following day, the breath-taking scenery of the Volcano Adatara, in the Fukushima District, was the backdrop for the meeting. Following charming twisty roads, the riders climbed to the top and had the chance to visit and walk through the volcano park. Then they moved down to Yotsokura beach, close to Iwaki, to end an enjoyable weekend on the Pacific Ocean shoreline.
Local and international sponsors supported the event that will move along the northern coast of Japan during the month of August. It will be joined by other riders willing to support affected areas after the Tsunami disaster. Because Riding is culture, adventure, friendship, but also solidarity!
