As the FIM Sustainability Week 2025 draws to a close, the motorcycling community proudly celebrates its collective achievements in driving sustainable practices within the sport. Amongst the standout initiatives this year is the TrialGP, where riders, teams, officials, and organisers have exemplified their commitment to fostering environmentally responsible events.
With successful flagship rounds in Portugal and Japan, the movement towards sustainability in motorcycling is gaining traction. A clear plan, strong objectives, and the collaboration of key stakeholders have proven that truly sustainable events are not only possible but can serve as catalysts for positive change.
For the fifth round of the 2025 FIM Trial World Championship, set to take place in San Marino on 7/8 June, the San Marino Motorcycling Federation, in partnership with Primary School Scuola Primavera, has developed an inspiring project centred on inclusion and sustainability. This initiative is designed to engage young minds, promoting environmental awareness and socio-cultural education through the lens of sport.
As part of the project, pupils will step into the role of “journalists”, interviewing TrialGP riders on key topics such as sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the core values of motorcycling.Discussions will explore the sport’s impact on nature and landscapes, including its economic contributions through the stimulation of local activities.
To amplify their role as ‘environmental ambassadors’, the students will wear ‘green T-shirts’, symbolising their commitment to observation, education, and action. They will monitor spectator areas, assess environmental practices, and work proactively to correct improper behaviours where necessary, ensuring that the site remains pristine throughout the event.
The young participants will conclude their experience by compiling a comprehensive report, summarising their observations and insights. This document will highlight the lessons learned, emphasising positive messaging that encourages respect for the environment and promotes sustainable sporting traditions.
This initiative highlights the significant impact of sport as an educational tool, promoting values such as responsibility, discipline, and perseverance in young individuals. As TrialGP continues its mission to bring the community closer to the sport, this collaboration with schools marks an essential step towards nurturing the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders.
Paolo Michelotti, President of the San Marino Motorcycling Federation, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating: "We are proud to introduce this project as part of the TrialGP in San Marino. Motorsport has the power to inspire and educate, and through this collaboration with schools, we aim to instil values of sustainability and inclusion in the next generation. By engaging young minds in environmental stewardship, we ensure that future riders, fans, and communities will understand the importance of preserving nature while enjoying the sport we love."
Thierry Michaud, Director of the FIM Trial Commission, emphasised the importance of connecting events with the community and riding with purpose, in line with the FIM Strategy: "Trial is much more than a sport; it is a way to engage with nature and local communities while promoting sustainability. Through this initiative, we are bringing our events closer to the people, allowing them to experience the sport firsthand and understand its values. Riding with purpose is at the heart of everything we do, and our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ensures that each event makes a positive contribution to the environment and society. By fostering partnerships and integrating sustainability into our strategy, we aim to create a lasting impact for future generations."
Together, through teamwork and shared vision, the San Marino Motorcycling Federation and its partners continue to prove that motorsport can be a driving force for sustainability, setting a precedent for future events worldwide.
