KiSS takes centre stage on day five of FIM Sustainability Week

The annual FIM Sustainability Week continues today (9 June) with activities dedicated to the flagship Keep it Shiny and Sustainable (KiSS) programme.

The KiSS programme is dedicated to ensuring that all FIM events adhere to the Sustainability Policy with a main objective of encouraging organisers to develop sustainable events, paying attention to factors such as sound and air pollution, soil and groundwater contamination, biodiversity and cultural heritage amongst others.

Launched in 2013 at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello in Italy, KiSS has been embraced by collaborators including IRTA, DORNA, Yamaha Motor Racing and the individual circuit operators. With its activities and impact growing on a daily basis to encompass virtually all FIM disciplines, KiSS has benefitted many communities around the world with Colombia, Chile, Spain, Italy, Finland, France, Andorra, Japan and the USA all enthusiastic participants.

Tailored to each situation, country and objective, organisers are supported by the FIM International Sustainability Commission (CID) as witnessed by the successful KiSS initiative that was launched for the first time in Asia at last month’s TrialGP of Japan.

As part of the ten-year anniversary celebrations, this weekend’s MotoGP™ round – the Gran Premio d’Italia Oakley – at Mugello will also stage a series of activities.
To mark this memorable milestone the FIM has commissioned a special wooden trophy designed to represent environmental, social and economic aspects – which are regarded as the three spheres of sustainability – and emphasise the importance of maintaining the equilibrium between all three.

The first in a new series of ‘Racing Together: Making a Difference’ evenings will be held today at Mugello. With the evening’s focus on KiSS, there will be a round table event hosted by MotoGP™ commentator Gavin Emmett discussing the inception and progress of KiSS and how sustainable management has evolved in organisations.
Speakers will be Kattia Juárez – Director of the FIM International Sustainability Commission, Paolo Poli – CEO of Mugello Circuit, Hervé Poncharal – IRTA President, Enrique Aldama – Chief Operating Officer for Dorna Sports and Luca Guzzabocca – CEO of Right Hub.

FIM President Jorge Viegas reinforced the importance of this milestone: “Over the last decade the KiSS programme has cemented itself as one of the most prominent tools in terms of carrying and reinforcing the FIM’s commitment to sustainability. Being able to adapt the programme to suit the various disciplines, countries and cultures in which it has delivered its message has been key to its success and longevity. Being able to celebrate the tenth anniversary of KiSS back at the circuit where it first started is a fitting tribute in itself to sustainability and the great advances that have been made in this work over this period."
