The Board of Directors met at the Grand Hôtel de Divonne in Divonne-les-Bains (France) and via videoconference on 9 and 10 February, ahead of the FIM Conference of Commissions to be held during the weekend.

On this occasion, the Board addressed many topics, in particular the following:
COVID-19 pandemic: The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the 2020 and 2021 World Championships/Cups and Prizes including Touring events as well as on finance was presented to the Board. It was highlighted that only minor cancellations or changes had impacted the 2021 sporting and non-sporting calendars thanks to the strong commitment of the FIM Family and stakeholders. The financial impact was also contained.

Sport: All disciplines were discussed with a focus on the new promoters starting as of 2022, which contracts were recently signed:
    •    SX Global - promotion of the FIM Supercross World Championship 2022-2031
    •    ESDEUX - promotion of the FIM X-Trial World Championship and X-Trial of Nations 2022-2024
The promotion of the FIM Flat Track World Championship/Cup was also addressed.

Finance: The 2021 closing and 2022 forecasts, both reflecting the sound financial situation of the FIM, were presented to the Board.

Legacy project: In December 2021, the General Assembly approved the transformation of the current FIM headquarters into a motorcycle sport museum/Hall of Fame and the construction of a new administrative building with a space dedicated to the technical laboratory (FIM Tech Lab). In this context, a first architectural model as well as a preliminary budget were agreed by the Board.

Online platform and digitalisation: The newly established system for FIM riders’ licences was explained to the Board. A brief overview of the development status of the medical data platform (accidentology and riders’ status) was presented. The latest developments of the FIM Academy e-learning platform were displayed. The Working Group on digitalisation submitted its report that included its mission and vision as well as the strategic areas for the implementation of a digital strategy.

FMN/CONU liaison: The most significant needs and support requested by the National Federations as well as the Continental Unions as a result of the individual meetings, calls, contacts and survey were shared with the Board. They mainly related to education, sound level, attracting volunteers and environmental aspects.

Marketing and Digital: A presentation of the activation on the social media in 2021 was made with a focus on the FIM Awards. The improvements made to the FIM website and the initial marketing and sponsoring actions deployed for the 2022 edition of the International Six Days’ Enduro (ISDE) were outlined.

Communication: An in-depth analysis of the communication initiatives related to the 2020-2021 FIM Awards ceremony was presented to the Board, highlighting the interviews, web activations, video and press clipping.

Amendments to the Sporting Code: Following the mandate given by the General Assembly to the Board of Directors on 3 December 2021, the latter proceeded to reorganizing and simplifying the list of the FIM World Championships and Prizes as stated in the Sporting Code, without specific mentions of classes nor categories. As a result, the FIM will be able to operate with the necessary flexibility and responsiveness to directly approve any creation, suppression and/or change of names of the events.

International Foundation for Motorcycling (IFM): A brief presentation of the Foundation Board meeting that took place on 4 December 2021 in Monaco was made. The main topics were the 2021 activities report and year-end forecast, the approval of the budget and activities for 2022 as well as the appointment of the members of the contributors’ advisory council and the external auditors.

Commissions: Commission Directors had the opportunity to share their main projects and concerns with the Board. The following changes were made to the composition of the FIM Commissions:
    •    CTI - Member, Mr Didier LAMBERT (FMI)
    •    CTI - Member, Mr Demis LAINI (FMI)
    •    CTI - Expert, Mr Eric CHAUVELIER
    •    CEB - Member, Mr Arnold NAGY (MAMS)
    •    CMI - Member, Dr Xavier CRESPO NOMEN (FMA)
    •    CTL - Member, Mr Michael WEISS (DMSB)

The Board further ratified the withdrawal of Mr John GALLAGHER (AMA) from the CMS.

In addition, the CONU Presidents, the Board Committees, the Working Groups and the Departments of the Administration presented their progress reports on their respective projects

All Commissions will meet over the weekend in the framework of the 2022 Commissions Conference. Among the various meetings planned, a plenary session bringing together the Board of Directors, the Commissions and the new 2022 promoters is scheduled to take place on Saturday, followed by a cocktail reception for FIM Family members at the FIM Headquarters.
