FIM Trial World Championshi - UNIVEGA rewards new talent

Continuing its association with the FIM, German bicycle company UNIVEGA has once again rewarded the new talent in the sport of Trial with two awards for young riders making their debuts in the FIM Trial World Championship and the FIM Women’s Trial World Championship respectively. UNIVEGA first began this scheme back in 2010 and since then has presented similar prizes every year to the rookie in each series.

This year the winners were as follows:

2013 FIM Women's Trial Rookie of the Year - Berta Abellan - ESP - Gas Gas
2013 FIM Trial Rookie of the Year - Gabriele Giarba - ITA – Beta

The winners were each presented with a UNIVEGA bicycle at the respective end of season award ceremonies in Isola 2000 and La Châtre, France.

UNIVEGA has enjoyed a long and rich association with the trial community, having backed the likes of Iris Kramer, Laia Sanz, Adam Raga and Jeroni Fajardo through its athlete sponsorship programme. Although supporting a number of established male and female riders, the company believes that celebrating the success of those who are new to top level Trial and in particular, new to the FIM Women’s Trial World Championship and the FIM 125 Trial Cup, is vital to the future of the sport.

Mr Uwe Reinkemeier-Lay, Director of UNIVEGA, commented: “It is with great pleasure that we are able to support the young privateer riders who have competed in both of these Trial championships. This is now the fourth year that
we have presented these awards and as ever both of these young riders fully deserve to receive their respective prizes for their efforts and achievement throughout the season. We recognise that cycling and especially with the MTB has a great connection with the sport of Trial and is the perfect way for the riders to train both in terms of their physical conditioning and their riding skills.”

Thierry Michaud, FIM CTR Director, added his comments: “Firstly we would like to thank UNIVEGA for their kind and continued support of these important awards. As a young rider arriving at either the FIM Trial World Championship or the FIM Women’s Trial World Championship you have a big challenge ahead of you in your first season, so it is nice that UNIVEGA has provided the opportunity for them to win a prize for their achievements. There is obviously a close association between MTB and Trial so we hope that this positive relationship between the FIM and UNIVEGA can continue into the future, as it is important that we encourage new riders to each of these championships, and these rookie awards offer a great incentive in this respect.”
