FIM Bajas: Portalegre to close out 2021 season

Baja Portalegre 500 is the seventh and final round of the 2021 FIM Bajas World Cup and closes out the season this weekend (October 28-30).

The rules have changed this year and the series ends with a final; the Baja Portalegre 500. Riders who qualified to participate in this final will have scored at least one point during the season and only the best results from two events during the year are retained with a maximum of 50 points.

If, at the end of the final, two riders are tied, the position obtained in the Baja Portalegre 500 will be the deciding benchmark. But this Baja has a which means that points are doubled and adds to the general excitement!

In the motorcycle category, Mohammed Al Balooshi currently leads the championship with 50 points and is followed by Martin Michek on 45. Jordanian Abdallah Abuaisheh holds third position with 33 points and can still claim the title if his rivals hit trouble.

In the Junior category, Konrad Dabrowski holds the advantage with 50 points but, like Balooshi, he will have to watch cartefully for main rival Margot Llobera on 40 points.

In the Women's category, Myriam Pol and Sara Garcia are tied with 50 points apiece and Margot Llobera has 40.
Among the veterans, Pedro Bianchi Prata starts with 40 points and will line up against Mozambique’s Paulo Oliveira (36 points) and Rui Ferreira (33 points).

In the quad section, three Saudi riders have tackled the entire season: Haitham Al-Tuwayjiri and Faisal Al-Suwayh both have 50 points and Hani Al-Noumesi has 40.

As for the SSVs, only Alexandre Pinto - second in the provisional standings with 25 points - will be present at Baja Portalegre 500.

Provisionally, 20 motorcycles will race in FIM, alongside three quads and 10 SSVs. They will tackle a route is 576.18km, including 415km of selective sections in the beautiful Alentejo region of Portugal.

Tomorrow (October 28), administrative and technical checks will take place at the Nerpor (Exhibition Center) in Portalegre from 07.00hrs. At 09.00hrs, riders are authorised to go and recce the Super Special (SS1) which will get the competition underway on October 29 at dawn, followed by SS2.

The third and fourth stages will be run on Saturday (October 30) and the prizegiving ceremony will take place at Nerpor from 20.30hrs.
