FIM Academy and CID Celebrate World Environment Day with Sustainability Webinars 


On World Environment Day, the FIM Academy and the International Sustainability Commission (CID) have come together to finalise a series of four webinars dedicated to environmental Sustainability, as part of the FIM Future Leaders Programme. This initiative underscores the vital role of Sustainability in motorcycling and highlights FIM’s commitment to equipping future leaders with the necessary skills to integrate Sustainability into their operations. 

A series of webinars Toward Sustainability

Since the beginning of the programme and throughout the year, the webinar series has been expertly curated by Matthew Campelli, Managing Director at Touchline Earth and a journalist specialising in sport and Sustainability since 2018. Touchline Earth, an organisation deeply involved in Sustainability projects, has participated with the FIM in its sustainability efforts, including the Sustainability Report and Sustainability Strategy.

The webinars were designed to provide students and federation members with knowledge on how Sustainability principles can strengthen the financial, economic, and operational aspects of sports organisations. By emphasising the relationship between nature and sport, participants have explored how Sustainability can enhance resilience and create long-term viability for federations, clubs, and businesses.

• Sustainability as a Strategic Priority
   o Understanding how Sustainability supports organisational resilience and contributes to the economic and financial well-being of sports entities.

• The Role of Global Sustainability Goals (SDGs) and Climate Action
  o Learning about global sustainability priorities and their impact on sports governance and environmental protection.

• Implementing Sustainability Strategies and Leadership
   o Developing effective Sustainability strategies, setting measurable objectives, and engaging stakeholders for impactful leadership.

• Communicating Sustainability Efforts
   o Enhancing internal and external communication strategies to convey Sustainability initiatives to target audiences effectively.

Final Webinar on World Environment Day 

The final webinar, which takes place today as part of Sustainability Week, will focus on management planning and offer a practical case study to demonstrate real-world applications amongst them the identification of plastic pollution in events and some strategies to reduce this pollution that is the topic of the WED this year. Leading the session is Ing. Kattia Juárez Dubón, Director of the FIM International Sustainability Commission, who has over twenty years of experience in Sustainability education. She has contributed her expertise to prominent international organisations and universities as a lecturer, including Bologna Business School, Texas State McCoy College, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University college of science and Engineering, sport and entertaining management, and authored several guides on Sustainable event management.

FIM Future Leaders Programme: Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders

The FIM Future Leaders Programme, launched in collaboration with the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), aims to prepare high-potential employees from National Federations to become leaders in motorcycling governance.

Through interactive learning, the program equips participants with knowledge in strategy, Sustainability, and leadership, ensuring they are well-prepared for the future. Some of its defining elements include:

• Leadership Development: Cultivating strong leaders who can navigate the complexities of modern sports governance.
• Gender Equality and Diversity: With support from the FIM Women’s Commission, ensuring equal representation among participants.
• Hands-on Training and Projects: Webinars, coaching sessions, and Capstone Projects that apply Sustainability strategies in real-world settings.
• In-Person Workshop at FIM Headquarters: A two-day immersive learning experience at FIM’s Switzerland headquarters, allowing participants to connect and collaborate.
