Enduro legend Fred Hoess returns to the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy for the fifth time

As a celebration of classic Enduro, the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) also attracts many past champions and legends of the sport.

The opportunity to race vintage motorcycles in an environment that is fitting of their capabilities, while also enjoying the social aspect of the event, means many of Enduro’s sporting greats need little convincing to compete.

Fred Hoess, a name synonymous with Enduro and the 6DAYS® FIM Enduro of Nations, is once again part of the United States’ Vintage Veteran Trophy team. Having competed in the 6DAYS® twenty-six times, he brings a wealth of experience and passion to the 2025 edition.

Here in Piekoszów, Poland, he will contest his fifth FIM EVT. A long-time supporter of the FIM EVT, he raced the inaugural edition in Spain in 2016 and immediately fell in love with the format, competitive aspect and community feel the race provides.

I’ve raced the 6DAYS® twenty-six times in my racing career, but I’m fifty-nine years old now and feel the FIM EVT suits me better,” tells Hoess.

It’s fantastic. The event allows you to be competitive but it maintains the spirit of classic Enduro that I think we all enjoyed so much from our younger racing days. It’s a fun, social event, with a relaxed feel.

In 2024, the FIM EVT introduced a new coefficient in the results that factors in the age of both the rider and motorcycle, with the goal of improving fairness and competitiveness for all.

I think there’s pros and cons,” considers Hoess, regarding the coefficient. “It’s nice. It allows older riders to be competitive and provides them with a better opportunity to finish well in their respective classes. I’m not sure if the formula is perfect yet, but as it was only introduced last year, it needs time to be tested and any problems ironed out.”

For 2025, Hoess will compete in the Classic C2 category on the same motorcycle he has raced on for his last three visits, a 1983 Husqvarna WR 250. The ninth edition of the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy takes place in Piekoszów, Poland from 6-9 August. For event information and live results stay tuned to ktmnovi.com as well as to the event’s official Instagram account @fim_enduro_vintage for daily event coverage.
