Celebrating the great and the good of vintage offroad motorcycles

Without question, aside from the timeless pleasure of riding offroad with friends, the highlight of the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) for all is celebrating the bringing together of so many different brands of motorcycles. From the iconic to the unheard off, the variety of different makes and models on show this year has been truly amazing.

As this year’s EVT draws to a close and weary riders complete the final day motocross races, for competitors like fifty-three year-old David Carreras Sureda it is one last chance to race and enjoy watching the vast array of motorcycles on show.

“Every rider will have a bike or a brand that they are very fond of, but I think for everyone just seeing so many different motorcycles is amazing. The variety is incredible, so many machines that you see so little of these days. And of course, many motorcycle brands that are no longer in business.

“Being a Catalan rider, competing on a bike built in Catalonia, in an event in Catalonia is something I’m very proud of. I have almost always ridden with GASGAS. A couple of years ago I was able to buy this 250cc bike, which is from nineteen ninety-one, and I’ve been doing some classic races on it since. This is not one of the first GASGAS bikes, but it is pretty old. This one already has a Husqvarna engine and discs brakes front and back.

“The race has been perfect, very, very good for these older bikes. And with the rain we had it has helped us a lot on the specials and on the roads because there was no dust. Beautiful landscapes always make riding offroad so much more enjoyable and here, I think we have some of the best scenery in the world. Catalonia has really given us riders everything we could have wished for.”
