Ahead of tonight’s final round of the 2015 FIM X-Trial World Championship, it seems like the perfect moment to look back.
Just less than twelve months ago Oviedo, Spain made a long overdue and welcome return to the FIM X-Trial World Championship. Prior to hosting the closing round of the 2014 series, the Spanish town last featured in the calendar way back in 1996 when the event was won by a certain home favourite Marc Colomer.
Fast-forward eighteen years to around about this time last year and it was not surprising that Toni Bou – Repsol Honda was on the top step of the podium. His victory in Oviedo late last March gave Toni a 100% winning record in the 2014 FIM X-Trial World Championship.
Bou was in supreme form on that night and was a clear and easy winner, as he remained clean throughout the final to leave his rivals in his wake. Albert Cabestany – Sherco was the runner-up on this occasion as he demoted Adam Raga – Gas Gas to third thanks to being successful in the tie decider after the arch enemies had ended the night both locked on ten marks. Britain’s James Dabill who was then Beta mounted rounded out the four finalists as his fourth spot on the night was enough to secure him fourth position in the final 2014 rankings.
Just like last year, there will be much still to play for in Oviedo later tonight.
