Working towards sustainability

Whilst the main action has been taking place out on the course at the 2016 FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE), behind the scenes there has been some equally important activity of another kind taking place.

Reinforcing the sheer importance of KiSS Navarra being the first ever sustainability programme of its kind to take place within the discipline of Enduro, the FIM has taken the opportunity of this special occasion to prepare a best practice video for future organisers.

Over the last days various people have been filmed inside and outside of the paddock from many different countries including a number of volunteers who have all shared their own stories about KiSS Navarra. Alongside this all the activities associated with the programme have also been captured on film.

In order to prepare for an event like this, it is necessary to create a full environmental plan that includes a detailed action plan, co-ordination with different government departments, assessment of the area, and coordination with different authorities.

The work done by the environmental team is much more than planning the number of bathrooms that the event requires and includes planning and activities before, during and after the event.

Working towards sustainability includes the participation of all the stakeholders involved in the event.

Communications always plays a major role in this process of organising sustainable events.

Spectators are crucial because the event needs to engage the fans and use the event for delivering environmental messages from the riders to all the audiences that will be at the ISDE.

Remember always ride green!
