When you were a child, you may well have looked at a motorcyclist and his or her motorcycle and thought: “When I get old enough, I want to ride a motorcycle too!”
But some kids may never get that chance, because they have a serious illness like cancer.
For those kids, it is something very special to get the opportunity to get a ride a motorcycle, and giving this chance to kids is a well-known form of charity in the motorcycling world.
One of the groups that organises this activity is a small motorcycle club near Copenhagen, where the 22 members of “MC Sneglene” (“MC Snails”) in English – give children with cancer a yearly treat in the form of rides on the back of their motorcycles.
The ride is organised in association with a national organisation for children with cancer and they are raising awareness of the event on their homepage.
Over the years, the number of motorcyclists who turn out for this annual ride has grown to nearly 270, including many from other parts of Denmark and even Sweden, eager to give the children this experience.
And by making this kind of gesture, they are showing the non-motorcycling world that motorcyclists are just normal members of the society who share a special type of interest.
The FIM has been the international federation for motorcycling activities, in both sport and beyond sport, since 1904 and welcomes riders of all kinds of motorcycles and motorcyclists of all ages, genders and nationalities to our Touring events.
