Eighteen year old Iwan Roberts – Beta is fast becoming known as the Welsh wonder following his two wins at the last two rounds of the FIM Trial World Championship. His second victory in the FIM World Trial Cup class came yesterday in front of his home fans as Roberts took full advantage of his home GP at Nord Vue. Iwan currently placed inside the top ten of the general standings did not make the long trip to Japan for the opening Grand Prix and, as such has been at a disadvantaged against his rivals ever since.
However, this has not deterred the Welsh teenager and he opened his 2015 account strongly with sixth and fifth positions respectively during the two days of completion at round two in the Czech Republic. Roberts then followed this up with two outstanding performances in Sweden last weekend. This included his maiden win on Saturday and a close runner’s up spot twenty four hours later. Continuing his good run of form, Iwan again climbed on to the top of the podium yesterday much to the delight of the British crowd.
With the best sixteen out of eighteen counting days used to determine the eventual champion in this category Iwan has suddenly become a title challenger if he opts to travel to the USA as well as the other European events to offset the two days he missed in Japan. Another top three placing today would certainly make him think about completing the rest of the 2015 campaign and give him a real chance of taking gold later in the year.
