FOGO FIM SPEEDWAY UNDER 21 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
FINAL 2 – GUSTROW, GERMANY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2019
Dominik Kubera holds a one point lead at the top of the intermediate Classification for the Fogo FIM Speedway Under 21 World Championship after winning the second round in Gustrow on Saturday. Taking advantage of and error by Maksim Drabik in the final he surged past his fellow countryman and held on to take a well deserved win.
Drabik had looked strong during the earlier races and qualified with 14 points, beaten only by Wiktor Lampart, but in the final he ran wide on the second bend allowing Kubera to pass to take three valuable points and the overall lead.
Russia’s Gleb Chugunov, leader after the first round, failed to reach the final and a costly fall in Heat 14 leaves him adrift of the leaders with some ground to make up in the final round next month. Current champion Bartosz Smektala ran a last place in the final and is now 8 points behind Kubera.
Britain’s Robert Lambert had a disappointing evening and failed to make the semi-final stage. His 7-point score suggests that he is unlikely to feature in the medals this year.
The scene is set for another tense final round in Pardubice on 5th October where former champion Drabik will hope to erase the memories of his disappointments at this track last year. With Kubera on top form and Smektala and Chugunov fighting for medals, this will be a meeting not to be missed.
