After having been absent from the calendar during last season, Andorra returned to the 2011 SPEA FIM World Championship to celebrate its fifteenth edition, which was duly won by Toni Bou. It was way back in 1992 that the small principality hosted its first ever Trial GP, with Jordi Tarres taking the initial victory at this new stop on the tour. A year later it was Tommi Ahvala who stood on the top step of the podium, before Tarres claimed his second and final win as the series returned to La Rabassa in 1995 after a one-year break. From 1997 through to 2003 Andorra hosted no less than six, two-day rounds – two at La Rabassa and four at Sant Julia de Loria. Although Kenichi Kuroyama was the victor on day one back in ’97, it was Dougie Lampkin who was the dominant force during this era, with a total of seven day wins over the six year period. Lampkin’s tally means he remains the King of Andorra, with no other rider having won this GP more than twice. Marc Freixa, Graham Jarvis and Jeroni Fajardo all have one Trial GP of Andorra victory to their name, whilst Albert Cabestany, Adam Raga and now Toni Bou join Tarres by having twice tasted the winners’ champagne in this unique principality.
