It was not rare to see women present when sporting activities came up at the end of the 19th century, and the beginning of 20th. Most of them were watching the exhibitions, meetings and races, but not so common to see women holding a steering wheel or a handlebar. A few ladies took part in the ISDT during the 20s. This picture was taken in 1929 in a sport just introduced in Great Britain the year before. Women riders Fay Taylour (left) and Eva Askquith shake hands before a match race at Wembley. A couple of years later women riders were banned from British tracks for more than half a century, a rule that would extend to international events – FICM was based in London. What was considered as a “normal behavior” in those times would not really include such an activity suitable for women…
