Motorcycling a passion to be treated with respect.
Preamble
The Automobile Club de L’Ouest (ACO), organiser of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Motorcycling race, has entered into a dynamic process of exchange with its spectators in order to preserve quality of life and conviviality during the event, limit the various types of pollution and avoid risks linked to the irresponsible conduct of a minority of our spectators.
In an effort to create conditions favourable to this process, the ACO and its partner Moto Journal set up a meeting with a representative group drawn from the spectators that frequent its events and the various partners who contribute towards putting the events together.
This first round table took place at the French motorcycling Grand Prix on 19 May 2012.
During this first exchange, the idea was to create a framework for this concerted process, to identify partners with determination, credibility and the capacity to act as relays in order to encourage as many people as possible to subscribe to the values that are dear to us, expressed in the form of a Charter.
Our circuit must not be allowed to become a place where codes of civility are cast aside and where the rules of community living are flouted. The ACO wishes to continue to host in the best possible conditions those who turn out to share their passion for motor sport, while guaranteeing the wellbeing of each and every one. And to achieve that end, we need to have everyone on board.
In order to mobilise the community as much as possible, the ACO has set out to have the Charter signed by the various participants in the race : teams, manufacturers, partners, riders, etc., and also to have it circulated via the media, social networks and the spectators’ representative group.
This Charter will then be distributed to as many people as possible, published in the press, displayed in dealerships, displayed in the infield of the circuit and the hospitality areas, etc.
The organiser undertakes to:
Set up contact and outreach teams and « evening captains » for the spectators ;
Signpost the reception and security points at the entrance to the hospitality areas ;
Avoid long breaks in the action and entertain the public as much as possible, announcing organised activities in the hospitality areas for those who wish to take part ;
Publicise its work to process the traces left by the festivities (treatment of waste, use of “ecocups”, sorting of garbage, noise levels, etc.);
Convey clearly and in a comprehensible and friendly way the rules of respect for others and for the state of the facilities ;
Listen to and take into account the spectators’ remarks ;
Apply the rules in force ;
Set up and drive a Charter-monitoring body ;
Encourage the creation of calmer hospitality areas : family zone, quiet area…
Strike a balance between all the parties involved, including the police, by giving them a more positive image of motorcyclists.
The spectators’ group undertakes to :
Participate alongside the organiser in the work and the process set in motion by the Charter ;
Mobilise their energies to contribute to the wellbeing of all ;
Encourage the greatest possible number to co-sign and share the Charter ;
Participate in the Charter-monitoring committee (watchdog group) ;
Apply the rules and the Charter ;
Take part in awareness raising and prevention activities.
The Charter
It is the joint expression of the undertakings of each party, the fruit of an exchange, of collaboration and concertation among all the parties concerned in order to reach agreement on the most harmonious possible conditions of life during events organised at the Le Mans Circuit.
