The FIM Board of Directors met in Rimini (Italy) in the framework of the 2022 General Assembly and FIM Awards

The Board of Directors met for its last meeting of the year under its current composition on 30 November and 1 December 2022, ahead of the General Assembly and FIM Awards ceremony to be held on 2 and 3 December 2022 in Rimini.

On this occasion, the Board addressed many topics, in particular the following:

Situation in Ukraine: The Board of Directors reiterated its sympathy and solidarity with all those suffering, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After having carefully considered the situation, the Board once again confirmed the decisions taken during its extraordinary meeting on 5 March 2022.

Sport: The FIM MotoE World Cup will become a World Championship as of 2023 and renamed FIM MotoE World Championship. All disciplines were discussed with a focus on the promotion of the FIM Supercross World Championship, the FIM Sidecar World Championship as well as the FIM Flat Track World Cup/Championship in the upcoming years. Alongside the subsidy allocated by the promoter of this World Championship, the Board decided to provide a financial support of EUR 75,000 to Endurance teams for the implementation of the FIM homologated fuel quick-fill system, which will be mandatory as of 2023. It was also agreed that technical reinforcement will be made in the FIM Superbike World Championship. In the framework of the efforts deployed by the FIM towards sound reduction, the FIM will make some soundmeters available to FMNs based on needs for sound tests. In addition, discussions took place on emerging technologies, eco fuels, as well as electric motorcycles and new opportunities. The FIM vintage sporting activities were also presented. 

Finance: The Board agreed on the 2023 budget to be submitted to the General Assembly for approval. The 2022 year-end forecast was outlined.

FIM Academy: Tailored educational content creation based on specific needs had been pursued on the elearning platform and had contributed to a significant increase in the number of registered participants.

FMN/CONU Liaison: An update was provided on the discussions held and issues addressed during the FMN/CONU Secretaries General meeting in Brussels in October 2022 as well as follow-up roundtables and initiatives.

New FIM brand identity: The 4 communication agencies shortlisted were invited to present their project with a view to establishing a new FIM brand identity, including a new FIM logo.

Legacy project: The construction work of the new FIM HQ started on 23 November 2022 with a target completion date set to mid-2024, year of the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the FIM. The current FIM HQ will be transformed into a Motorcycle Sports Museum to preserve the social, cultural and historical legacy of the FIM and motorcycling.

Amendments to Codes and Regulations: The Board approved amendments to the Sporting Code including calendar and licence fees that will be submitted to the General Assembly for approval. Several amendments to the Medical Code were also agreed on by the Board.

Appointments of the LJI Director and Members for 2023-2026: The LJI Director and Members for the forthcoming 2023-2026 term were appointed by the Board and will be presented to the General Assembly for confirmation.

International Foundation for Motorcycling (IFM): The agenda of the next meeting of the IFM, to take place in Rimini on 4 December, was presented and included the appointments of the Foundation Board Members for 2023-2026 and of the Members of the Contributor’s Advisory Council for 2023, as well as the 2023 budget.

2023 General Assembly and FIM Awards: Following a tender process, the Board agreed to retain the city of Liverpool (UK) for hosting the 2023 General Assembly and FIM Awards.
2023 Commissions Conference: A status update and progress report on the organization of the 2023 Commissions Conference to be held in Lille (France) in February was presented to the Board.

In addition, the CONU Presidents, the Board Committees, the Working Groups and the departments of the Administration presented progress reports on their respective projects.
