Ten things to know ahead of British MotoGP race

1. Marc Marquez has qualified on pole position for the fifth time in the MotoGPTM class at Silverstone, equalling his number of premier class pole positions set at Termas de Rio Hondo earlier this season and at Phillip Island.

2. This is the 60th pole position for Marc Marquez for what is his 120th start in the premier class, meaning he has qualified on pole position in exactly half of the races he has competed in since he stepped up to the premier class of Grand Prix racing back in 2013.

3. In addition, this is Marc Marquez’ 88th pole position on what is the 198th start in his Grand Prix career (44.4%).

4. Valentino Rossi has qualified in second place as the highest-placed Yamaha rider on the grid. This is Rossi’s second front row start of the season so far, along with Austin, which was the last time he has stood on the podium.

5. Jack Miller completes the front row as the highest-placed Ducati and Independent Team rider. This is Miller’s third front row start of the season, along with Le Mans and Brno.

6. Fabio Quartararo, who topped the first three practices at Silverstone, has qualified in fourth place on the grid. If Fabio Quartararo wins the race in Silverstone (20 years and 127 days old), he will be the second youngest rider to win a premier class race behind Marc Marquez, who was 20 years and 63 days old when he won at the Americas GP in 2013.

7. After passing through Q1, Alex Rins has qualified in fifth place, which is the second-best qualifying result for a Suzuki rider at Silverstone in the MotoGP class after Maverick Viñales was third in 2016 on his way to giving Suzuki their second victory in the class since its introduction back in 2002.

8. Maverick Viñales, who won his first premier class race at Silverstone in 2016, has qualified in sixth place, which is the ninth time this year he starts from the front two rows.

9. The second Ducati rider, in seventh place, is Andrea Dovizioso, who joined Q1 for the fourth time this year. Dovizioso won at Silverstone in 2017, which was the only win for a Ducati rider at the track.

10. Franco Morbidelli has qualified in eighth place as the fourth Yamaha rider, making it the third time this year there have been four Yama- ha riders within the top eight in qualifying, along with Argentina and Catalunya.
