Team Suzuki Finland take the Gold Race

With dry conditions once again it looked like the Gold race was going to be a hard race for riders and machines. In the morning warm up, Milan Spendal and Peter Hill had a crash. Both riders were uninjured but could not start the race. As the lights went out it was Schlosser/Hofer again who got the holeshot into the first corner with the rest of the field in hot pursuit. The Birchall Brothers overhauled Schlosser to take the lead in lap 4 with Paivarinta/Hanni 3rd being chased hard by Hock and Becker. Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze were having machine problems and were getting caught by Mike Roscher and De Haas. On lap 9 Janez Remse and Paul Knapton turned their machine over and with the leaders already on lap 10 the Birchall brothers collided with BEM Racing sidecar. Schlosser tried to avoid both and crashed. This brought the red flags out for a re-start over 13 laps. At the restart, the now depleted grid was also missing Scott Lawrie and James Neave who had overheating problems and Bennie Streuer with Kees Endeveld with a broken gearbox. At the start, the first corner saw contact between two teams which meant that Barry James and Jamie Winn pulled in at the end of the lap. The race finished with Paivarinta and Hanni taking the win from Hock and Becker, on corrected time Mike Roscher and Danny De Haas were third from Reeves and Cluze although Reeves crossed the line in third.
