Sundstrom awarded Ullevi wild card spot

Swedish speedway racer Linus Sundstrom makes his full World Championship debut when he rides as the wild card in the Fogo Swedish FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Gothenburg on May 4.

This will be the first time the Piraterna, Peterborough, Gorzow and Grindsted rider has taken at least five outings in an SGP event. He dons the famous No.16 wild card race jacket.

The 22-year-old from Avesta – home of six-time world champion Tony Rickardsson – is being tipped as a future Swedish international and could stake his claim for a place in their Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup squad at the Ullevi Stadium.

Sundstrom scored a point when he raced as track reserve at the FIM Scandinavian SGP in Malilla on August 14, 2010. He also served as a stand-in rider at the G&B Arena in 2011 and at both the Ullevi Stadium and Malilla rounds last year.

He is joined in the Swedish SGP by track reserves Dennis Andersson and Mathias Thornblom.

Andersson, who also comes from Avesta and races for Dackarna, Poole and Rzeszow, lines up at No.17. Indianerna, Gdansk and Grindsted rider Thornblom, who also represents his local club Malmo, is No.18.

Britain’s Jim Lawrence will referee the meeting.
