2021 FIM Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship Final
Bydgoszcz, Poland. 10th September 2021
Pre meeting favourites Poland retained their firm grip on the Team Speedway Under 21 World Championship with a solid performance in Bydgoszcz on Friday.
Always impressive the Poles easily qualified for the Final dropping their only points in their first race when Jan Miskowiak suffered motor problems. His teammate Wiktor Lampart was in good form to post 24 points out of the Poles total of 45.
Denmark made the Final by beating the Great Britain pair in the ‘Last Chance’ race off when they took the lead from the start and never allowed the British to threaten.
An exciting Final race saw the Polish riders overcome some fighting opposition from the Danes. Miskowiak emerged in the lead from a close first lap with Mads Hansen chasing him hard. Finally, Lampart was able to secure his third place despite a strong challenge from Marcus Birkemose and Poland’s Gold medal was secure.
Denmark’s silver medal was achieved despite an injury to Tim Soerensen who took a heavy fall into the safety fence in heat 16 and left the track in an ambulance.
Surprise bronze medallists were the Great Britain team who scored 27 points, mainly due to a great performance from captain Tom Brennan who was one of the individual stars of the meeting. Team Australia were only one point behind with Keynan Rew their top scorer.
Latvia relied too heavily on Francis Gusts who needed more support from his teammates and the same applied to Czech Republic who, as expected, missed the potential scoring of Jan Kveck. For Sweden Philip Hellstrom-Bangs was not fully fit and with Alexander Woentin not at his best a last place finish was not unexpected.
Final Result:
Poland 39 points
Denmark 32
Great Britain 27
Australia 26
Czech Republic 23
Latvia 22
Sweden 20
