Sheffield celebrates 20 years

Spain’s Jordi Tarres was perhaps the favourite back at the first sell out event in 1996, but it was British home hero Dougie Lampkin who came out on top come the end of the night. This was to mark the start of an incredible winning run for Lampkin as he notched up seven victories on the bounce to become the undisputed King of Sheffield.

Dougie’s reign was temporarily halted in 2003 as the then reigning FIM Indoor Trial World Champion Albert Cabestany - Sherco took full advantage of Lampkin’s spluttering bike to snatch the win in the dying seconds. Dougie was to exact revenge twelve months later as he took win number eight on his home turf, which was to be his last victory in this event.

Adam Raga was the victor in 2005, before the current and undisputed King of Trial Toni  Bou – Repsol Honda took over the throne from 2006 through to 2014 and notched up nine victories to beat Lampkin’s long held record. Tomorrow Bou will have the chance to take his tally to ten as Sheffield celebrates it twentieth birthday.
