Sanz – The Champion speaks

Laia Sanz – Repsol Montesa has just claimed her eleventh FIM Women’s Trial World Championship after recording two straight wins in the 2011 series. Undisputedly the most successful female Trial rider of all time, the twenty-five year old campaigner recorded her first World title back in 2000 before going on to record another six in succession. Sanz’s only defeat in the series came in 2007 when Iris Kramer pipped her to the title. That proved to be only a temporary blip, with Laia having been back on a winning run since 2008.
 
Speaking after her recent victory, the newly crowned 2011 FIM Women’s Trial World Champion Laia Sanz said, “For sure I’m very happy because I have won both the World and the European titles. However I am not so happy with my riding though as I could not concentrate and stay focused.”
 
“Maybe it was the pressure of knowing I could win the championship, but anyway I am very happy and winning both titles the same weekend is fantastic. I want to come back again next year for the championship and fight for my twelfth World title and I also am starting to think about the Dakar Rally too. But before that we have the Trial des Nations to compete in and I think this year we have a good team. Today Sandra Gomez was very good and was second on the first lap so I think we have a great chance, for sure England will be vey strong, but I think we can win the team title too.”
