S1GP: Austria Ruled the 2025 Trophy of Nations


The Trophy of Nations was packed with emotions and offered a thrilling show to the crowd that attended the event. Austria ruled this edition of the event with team leader Lukas Hollbacher joined by teammates Andreas Buschberger and Bernhard Hitzenberger. France won the trophy in the Junior class.

RACE 1 S1oN (Riders 1 + Riders 2)

At the start of the first race of the day the fastest rider who moved to the front after the first corner was Austrian Bernhard Hitzenberger, closely followed by Fabrizio Bartolini. Behind the duo, Marc Reiner Schmidt made up ground and took the lead, chased by Milan Sitniansky and Steve Bonnal. The three top riders kept a phenomenal race pace and pulled away but the German rider, who is also the defending World Champion, could not move far from his rivals and focused on keeping a solid race pace and avoiding mistakes. Schmidt, Sitniansky and Bonnal crossed the finish line one after the other and were followed by Andreas Buschberger, in fourth place, and Jan Deitenbach who took fifth position after rejecting the attacks received from Fabrizio Bartolini.

After the first race Germany took the lead in the standings followed by the home team, Czech Republic, while France was third.

RACE 2 S1oN (Riders 2 + Riders 3)

Andreas Buschberger was the author of a thrilling start and took the lead of the pack closely chased by Erik Provaznik and French Sylvain Bidart. The two front runners moved far from their chasers, but two riders worked their way up and tried to reach the front, Elia Sammartin and Lukas Hollabacher. The Austrian rider and the Italian had to do their best to climb up the standings and after overtaking Bidart they started to chase the front duo.

During the 11th lap Sammartin overtook Provaznik and was followed by Hollbacher. Thanks to a solid race pace the riders started to close the gap and when the Italian seemed ready to attack Buschberger in the off-road session he crashed and gave the green light to Hollbacher. The latter reached his teammate and won the race. Sylvain Bidart qualified third, Italian Luca D’Addato was fourth and Elia Sammartin had to feel happy with tenth place after the crash. At the end of Race2, Austria moved to the top of the standings, followed by Czech Republic while Germany was third.

RACE 3 S1oN (Riders 1+Riders 3)

Elia Sammartin pulled away from the pole position and made a perfect start taking the lead of the race. The Italian rider only kept the leadership for a couple of laps handing it to Lukas Hollbacher first and Marc Reiner Schmidt after. Thanks to a thrilling race the Austrian rider pushed away and not even Marc Reiner Schmidt could bother him. The German rider tried to strengthen the gap but had no power compared to Hollbacher’s dominance. Steve Bonnal was third at the finish line. Courtesy of the victory taken in the two races and the solid results Austria came home with the Francesco Zerbi Trophy, and was joined on the podium by Germany with World Champion Marc Reiner Schmidt, while Czech Republic was third applauded by the crowd.

RACE 1 S1oN Junior (Riders 1 + Riders 2)

Eddy Frech made no mistakes at the start and took the lead of the operations in the first lap. The young German talent who stood out for his great speed in some World Championship races, immediately set an incredible race pace and opened a gap over rivals in the first laps. The rider was followed by Czech Denis Fligr who battled it out with Gabin Pernat. During the third lap the French rider moved to second place, but the race leader was already too far away. The other French rider, Raphael Payet, was the protagonist of a thrilling recovery from the last positions to third place overall. Excellent performance also for Jan Ulman who ended up fourth.       

Mattia Rato was the wonder rider of the qualifying race but started from the back and made a mistake in the first lap when he crashed in the off-road. Thanks to his skills the Italian rider worked his way up on the asphalt and recovered as many positions as he could till the 11th spot. At the end of the first race France was the standings leader followed by Germany and Czech Republic in third place.

RACE 2 S1oN Junior (Riders 1 + Riders 2 + Riders 3)

The second and last race of the Junior class offered a thrilling show. Team Italy lined up Mattia Rato as first rider and the challenger, who faced a race with an off-road session for the first time, offered a great show. Eddy Frech took the lead in the first corner followed by Pernat with Rato third. In the first laps the Italian rider observed his rivals and then set his own race pace eventually speeding up on the asphalt and ruled the race till the checkered flag. Frech had to watch out from Gabin Pernat who played strategically with his teammate Payet. Courtesy of a second and a third place at the end of the race, France won the Junior Supermoto of Nations qualifying in front of Germany and Czech Republic. Despite achieving seventh place, Italy took seventh place overall because of too many mistakes made by the riders.
