Rickardsson aims to find next generation of stars with SGP4 bike now available to order

Swedish legend Tony Rickardsson believes the brand-new SGP4 bike can propel a new generation of stars to the top of the sport with the 190cc machine available to order now.

Designed by the six-time FIM Speedway world champion and his long-time mechanic Tomasz Suskiewicz, the brand-new bike with a Daytona FS Anima 190 engine, aimed at 11 to 13-year-olds, makes its competition debut on the afternoon of the FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla on July 15, when the first-ever SGP4 event will be staged.

The competition’s launch is part of FIM Speedway global promoter Warner Bros. Discovery Sports’ vision to give speedway’s youngest riders the ideal first step on to the sport’s pyramid, before progressing to SGP3 – the FIM Speedway Youth World Championship for 250cc under-16 riders, which also takes place in Malilla on Friday, July 14.

Riders then graduate on to the full-size 500cc bikes for SGP2 – the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship, which gets underway with the Prague FIM SGP2 of Czech Republic this Friday, before taking the ultimate step into Speedway GP.

After a year of testing and development in consultation with riders, their families and experts across Europe, Rickardsson believes the SGP4 bike will offer youngsters the perfect introduction to the sport.

He said: “We took the bike to the recent Orlen FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Warsaw and there was a lot of interest from young riders and their families in the fanzone there.

“As I have always said, the idea of this bike was to deliver something that looks like a big bike, sounds like a big bike and, most importantly, rides like a big bike, but in a small package and for a reasonable sum of money.

“Quality was a key factor in every decision we made, and the bike is built using high-quality components from suppliers who also produce parts for Speedway GP riders. Easy access to spare parts and assistance with maintaining the bikes will also be available.

“The bike is designed to be ridden on training tracks, so I am very excited to see the very first SGP4 competition on Malilla’s training track on July 15 ahead of the FIM Swedish Speedway GP. That will be an historic day for youth speedway.

“For riders looking to take their first steps into international competition, the SGP4 bike is the one they will need to race.

“I hope some of the youngsters we see on track in Malilla will make it into SGP3, SGP2 and ultimately Speedway GP as we work to create the champions of tomorrow.”
