Renato Botteghi, after serving as a marshal at the Emilia-Romagna Round of WorldSBK, suffered a sudden illness. Despite the prompt intervention of the medical staff and his transfer to the Medical Centre, where personnel did everything possible to revive him but unfortunately despite their best efforts he passed away. Renato Botteghi was 65 years old and lived in Santarcangelo.
The FIM, FMI, Misano World Circuit and Dorna WSBK Organisation express their deepest condolences and sympathy to his family and colleagues.
“The role of marshals,” emphasised Misano World Circuit and Dorna, “is essential for ensuring the safe conduct of motorsport events. We are grateful for the work they do and deeply saddened by this loss, which comes at the end of a weekend that went smoothly, thanks in part to their valuable contribution.”
The President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Michele de Pascale, and the Regional Councillor for Tourism, Sport, and Commerce, Roberta Frisoni—who was present in Misano—also joined in expressing their condolences: “We stand with the family of Renato Botteghi and offer our heartfelt sympathy on behalf of the entire regional community for this great loss.”
FIM President Jorge Viegas was deeply saddened by this news and explained, “The role of marshals is core and fundamental to all types of motorcycle racing, and is carried out by selfless people who give their time and passion for the safety of others, without their dedication we would have no motorcycle sport. On behalf of the FIM, I want to extend our deepest condolences to Renato’s family and friends, he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him and all those riders who he served at the circuit.”
