Fresh from their exciting battles in Assen, the Ice Speedway Gladiators now move across the Dutch border into Germany. Between Munich and Salzburg, nestling in the shelter of the Bavarian Alps close to Berchtesgaden and Lake Chiemsee is the town of Inzell, and another of Ice Speedway’s traditional venues, the Max Eicher Arena. Recently modernised, this 7000 capacity stadium now provides state of the art facilities for competitors and spectators and is expected to be filled to capacity for Round 4 of the 2013 MOTUL FIM Ice Speedway Gladiators World Championship which takes place here on Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th March.

Although the Russians have opened up a clear gap at the top of the leader board, competition between themselves as well as the top western riders continues to be fierce and the draw made by FIM produces the possibility of some great races over the weekend. Daniil Ivanov will expect to consolidate his lead as the prospect of his first individual world championship moves closer but he can expect no support on track from his fellow countrymen looking for a share of the glory when the series ends. With current champion Nikolai Krasnikov in his corner, Dmitry Koltakov is improving as the season progresses and is now only three points adrift from the leader. Dmitry Khomitsevich is still there with a chance of a medal despite having dropped points in Assen. Austrians Simon and Zorn still snap at the heels of the Russians but have lacked the consistency needed to make major incursions into the eastern domination. However, with four meetings still to go, this weekend could see some surprising results as the destiny of the title remains to be decided.
Current positions in the championship are:
1 | Daniil IVANOV | RUSSIA | 118 |
2 | Dmitry KOLTAKOV | RUSSIA | 115 |
3 | Dmitry KHOMITSEVICH | RUSSIA | 93 |
4 | Vitaly KHOMITSEVICH | RUSSIA | 73 |
5 | Pavel CHAIKA | RUSSIA | 68 |
6 | Franz ZORN | AUSTRIA | 60 |
7 | Harald SIMON | AUSTRIA | 49 |
8 | Eduard KRYSOV | RUSSIA | 45 |
9 | Stefan SVENSSON | SWEDEN | 38 |
10 | Gunther BAUER | GERMANY | 27 |
Eduard Krysov sustained leg and arm injuries in Assen which prevented him from competing on the second day. He is expected to be fit to race in Inzell but if not his place will be taken by the next available Qualified Substitute No 20, Per-Anders Lindström of Sweden.
Racing in Inzell starts at 17.00 on Saturday and 14.00 local time on Sunday. FIM Jury President is Tony Steele from Great Britain and Referee, Poland’s Marek Wojaczek.
