Polish Wild Card Janowski Set for Speedway GP Return in Wroclaw

Polish hero Maciej Janowski makes his return to the FIM Speedway Grand Prix stage as hometown wild card for the DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on August 30.

The 2022 Speedway GP World Championship bronze medallist dons the famous No.16 race jacket at the iconic Olympic Stadium, which staged the very first SGP event 30 years ago on May 20, 1995.

Magic delivered one of Wroclaw’s most iconic Speedway GP moments when he won round two of the 2020 championship in his home city.

But his most famous night at the Olympic Stadium came on July 29, 2023, when he stormed past Great Britain star Robert Lambert and Danish racer Anders Thomsen in an epic last-heat decider to win FIM Speedway World Cup gold for Poland.

It was an emotional moment for Janowski, whose heroics came 18 years after he watched his country win their first FIM SWC title at Wroclaw’s Olympic Stadium from the terraces as a fan on his 14th birthday on August 6, 2005.

The Sparta Wroclaw rider makes his first Speedway GP appearance of 2025 and will hope to add to his eight SGP wins on what is his 101st outing on the sport’s biggest stage.

Magic joins five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik – a three-time Wroclaw winner – and their international teammate Dominik Kubera in flying the Polish flag in the penultimate round of the 2025 Speedway GP series.

The DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw line-up is completed by track reserves Marcel Kowolik and Nikodem Mikołajczyk, who feature in the No.17 and No.18 race jackets respectively. Janowski’s Wroclaw teammates both hope to make their Speedway GP debuts. They served as track reserves in the 2024 event but were not called into action.
