Reigning FIM Supersport World Championship champion Andrew Pitt picked up from where he left off last season as he recorded the quickest time in qualifying for the first round of the season in Australia on Friday.
The new season began in ideal conditions at Phillip Island and Australian Pitt made good on his home track to lap in a best time of one minute 34.833 seconds.
Pitt's Hannspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate and 2007 championship winner Kenan Sofuoglu was the second fastest, just 0.062secs behind, as the Dutch team sounded an ominous warning they are ready to continue their recent dominance.
The provisional front row is completed by France's Fabien Foret, who clocked the third quickest time on his Yamaha, and Australia veteran Garry McCoy.
British rider Cal Crutchlow was fifth quickest with his best time of the day 0.636secs slower than Pitt.
