Its seems a lifetime, but it is only the second stage of the Sardegna Rally Race. In fact, on the second day, and all in a long day, the riders faced the longest stage of the rally, held two special stages, and had to cross completely different and… weather.
Two special stages, yes. Both of about one hundred kilometers, the first early in the morning, and the second after a very special mid stage service. The caravan of the Sardegna Rally Race has, in fact, had the privilege of being the special "guest" of the motorcycle club Gonnesa, that has set up a real happening, completed with traditional tuna barbecue in the fascinating "terrace" of Porto Paglia, overlooking the sea of the West.
The theme of the day was "understand" how the race ca evolve, in order to forecast the final podium of San Teodoro, at the conclusione of the eighth edition of the World Rally invented and organized by Bike Village. The more "active" Rider in the early stages of the Rally was the Portuguese Paulo Gonçalves. Today, however, the strong Portuguese champion has hardly "digested" the daily menu of "SRR15". The fact is that in Sardinia, as we know, a mistake can be very expensive, and today Gonçalves dropped from the roof to the basement of the Rally.
So, first of all the second stage has been the opportunity for redemption of Joan Pedrero. The "Giant" Catalan had paid dearly for a "speeding", and consequently its ranking is doomed. But Pedrero has not lifted at least the satisfaction of wearing his Sherco with the success in both the special stages of the day. Another essential of the Rally was to understand how much the strongest of the Italian drivers, Alessandro Botturi, had not been affected by the not so brilliant performance of the first stage. Little or nothing, it is the answer. Indeed it seems that the “Giant” of Brescia sent the signal of a perfect revenge-mission. Botturi was the more profitable Rider in both special stages, to the point of being able, at the end of the stage, to completely reverse the situation and to push himself to the head of the race.
But Botturi is not the only Italian that deserves a title in the report of the second stage. Certainly another Rider has been catapulted to center stage of the Sardegna Rally Race. It is Jacopo Cerutti, the young Rider who discovered this year to have an extraordinary talent for one of the toughest off-road disciplines. Moral: Jacopo Cerutti leaves the difficult second stage with an extraordinary result, the provisional podium.
The final "subtitle", no less important, is dedicated to Marc Coma. The Catalan “Giant”, the Rider who has won everything and that nobody can beat, is having one of its key seasons, and is focused on the assault of a series of records that will send him diretly in the first page in the book of history of the Rally-Raid. To win the Sardegna Rally Race, for the fourth time, it would be a part of his record. But even more important, for Spanish, is to maintain the leadership of the World Championship he leads. In short, with two "markers", Marc Coma holds second place in the provisional standings of the Rally of Bike Village, and frankly, knowing a little the tactic style of the Rider, the result speaks for itself.
