PAU MARTINEZ – 2020 FIM TRIAL 125 WORLD CHAMPION

At  just seventeen years of age, Pau Martinez (Vertigo) is proof positive  of the success of Trial125 as a nurturing ground for future talent. In  his first year in the class  he was twentieth, improved to tenth in 2018 and sixth in 2019 before  booking his ticket for Trial2 next season with the 2020 crown.

Martinez  kicked off his 2020 campaign in the best possible way with dominant  double wins at the French TrialGP and the Spanish TrialGP. He  momentarily stumbled high in the Pyrenees at the Andorran TrialGP at  Sant Julià with a pair of second-placed finishes, but  was back to his brilliant best on day one of the final round in Italy  to seal his – and Vertigo’s – first World Championship title.

Despite  slipping to fourth on day two of the Italian TrialGP, his eventual  championship-winning margin was an impressive thirty-two points over Leo  Guiraud (Beta) from France.

Martinez was introduced to Trial by his father who bought him his first motorcycle when he was just two years old and with the great Toni Bou and British legend and Vertigo Team Manager Dougie Lampkin as impeccable role models has set himself the goal of reaching the top-flight TrialGP class with his ultimate dream of being the World title in this category.

He  takes another step on the ladder next season when he moves up to  Trial2, but he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and has already  declared 2021 as a “learning year”.
