As the lights went out it was the Birchall Brothers, Ben and Tom who took the lead on their Mitchells of Mansfield, LCR Yamaha from Pekka Paivarinta and Adolf Hanni, Team Suzuki Finland, LCR Suzuki, Kurt Hock and Enrico Becker slotted into third on their Hock Racing LCR Suzuki, Milan Spendal and Peter Hill, AMD Kranj, LCR Suzuki got a great start and were right behind Scott Lawrie and James Neave, Lucky 2 Racing LCR Suzuki in fourth spot. As the race progressed Paivarinta and Hanni got by the Birchall Brothers and started to put a good gap between them and the Birchalls, this gap stayed steady through out the race and they crossed the line to take the race win from the Birchall Brothers by 9.553. Tim Reeves and Gregory Cluze, Tim Reeves Racing,LCR Honda who started from the back row of the grid had a reasonable start but as the race progressed they got into the groove and started to pick there way up through the field, however as they moved closer to the top five teams it was getting harder to pass, on lap seven Kurt Hock and Enrico Becker encountered gear change problems and started to slow letting Reeves and Cluze to concentrate on Lawrie and Neave who were being followed by the “New Kids On The Block” Ben Bygrave and Calum Lawson, Bygrave Racing, LCR Suzuki, who were having a great race, however nearing the end of the race they were having some technical problems witch left them to cross the line in a creditable fifth place to take their first World Championship points. Reeves and Cluze got by Lawrie and Neave to cross the line in third place, but a great result for Lawrie and Neave in fourth. Hock and Becker managed to finish the race in sixth place just in front of Spendal and Hill in seventh, eighth was Bennie Streuer and Kees Endeveld, Streuer Racing, LCR Suzuki, Jakob Rutz and Ueli Wafler,Racing Team Rutz, LCR Yamaha in ninth and a good finish for Gary and Daniel Knight, Redline-RSR Suzuki in tenth. Mike Roscher and Danny Kamerbeek, RSC-Kopack Racing, LCR BMW did not take their third place on the grid and not start the race.
