Medical boost for Bjerre

Dane Kenneth Bjerre has been given a massive boost as he prepares for his debut in the FIM Speedway World Championship Grand Prix.

A medical check on the leg he broke, and had pinned, last year gave the Peterborough rider a clean bill of health.

Esbjerg-born Bjerre, who had the metalwork removed in November, was relieved to hear the limb is now healing well.

Having ridden in pain during the second half of the 2008 campaign, the 24-year-old former Newcastle and Belle Vue teamster told www.speedwayworld.tv: "The doctors tell me I have 100 per cent use of my leg. It is stronger than ever.

"It's the best news possible, and now I can commence going to the gym and get myself in good shape for the forthcoming season. I can't wait for the season to start."

Mick Bratley, Bjerre's promoter at Peterborough, said: "This is great news. I think this has been more of a concern to Kenneth than he has been letting on."
