Swedish star Antonio Lindback is back in the FIM Speedway World Championship big-time after being handed the Swedish FIM Speedway Grand Prix wild card.
The Rio Rocket, 30, races in the famous No.16 race jacket at Malilla’s G&B Arena on July 25.
Lindback is riding the crest of a wave this year after claiming Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup gold with Sweden at Danish venue Vojens on June 14 – 11 years after he won his first SWC with his country, aged just 19 at British track Poole in 2004.
Since finishing seventh in the 2012 World Championship, Lindback has struggled to recapture the form, which saw him claim SGP wins in Terenzano and Torun this season.
But he’s well and truly back on song this year, scoring strongly for Swedish Elitserien side Indianerna, Allsvenskan League leaders Masarna and Latvian-based Polish First Division outfit Daugavpils.
Lindback is joined in the Swedish SGP field by track reserves Linus Sundstrom and Peter Ljung.
The referee for the Malilla meeting is Craig Akroyd from Great Britain.
