The Ducati Museum in Borgo Panigale hosted the round table "The future: sustainability and motorcycling". The event, the last of “Ride to FIM Awards” event series, saw an interesting discussion on the issues of sustainability in motorcycling between several prominent personalities: Jorge Viegas (FIM President), Giovanni Copioli (FMI President), Claudio Domenicali (Ducati Motor Holding CEO), Stefano Bonaccini (President of the Emilia Romagna Region). Also present were Kattia Juarez (Director of the FIM Sustainability Commission), Michele Cecchini (Head of eMotosport Enel X Way), Paolo Colombo (Innovation Manager of Dell'Orto), Pippa Ganderton (ATPI Director of Global Account Management) and Andrea Pontremoli (Bologna MUNER University President) and the FIM Board members.

Opening the roundtable, FMI President, Giovanni Copioli explained, that the Italian Motorcycling Federation is committed to looking to the future and to the sustainability of motorcycling and relies on the work of its Environment Commission, which is at the centre of its actions, an aspect that is now essential in all activities. The Italian Federation wants to create a dynamic and worthy system with companies that care about sustainability in motorcycling. Objectives shared by Ducati - proof of this is the MotoE project and the desire to host today this important meeting aimed at discussing subjects that represent our next challenges.

Claudio Domenicali highlighted the importance of the round table, emphasising how sustainability is a topic on which to focus attention for every company that cares about its future. He also recalled that from next year Ducati will be the sole official supplier of the MotoE. Stefano Bonaccini focused on the importance of the series for development, taking the Motorvalley Association as an example; he then mentioned the 50 billion euro of exports of the Emilia Romagna Region in the sectors of mechanical, electronics and engines and concluded his speech by focusing on the energy transition and sustainable development.
Jorge Viegas addressed the audience of media and invited guests by detailing how the FIM is working in different directions to protect the environment, an issue to be taken into the utmost consideration. Subsequently he highlighted that the International Federation is working to transform the FIM Awards into a real brand.

Kattia Juarez concluded by saying that with the Ducati museum as a framework, we marked a milestone in the history of motorcycling: recognised experts in the motor world agreed that the future is sustainable motorcycling. In addition, we have heard outstanding contributions from the motorcycling industry, academic partners, National and International Federations and the regional government. All of them covered topics of great value: a more sustainable motorcycling industry, engagement with the community, socially responsible and providing concrete solutions to reduce the climate crisis, amongst other goals.

Leaders of the national and International Federations committed to the sector's sustainability: as a laboratory for new technologies, alternative mobility, respectful sport, energy transition and a facilitator of Sustainable Development. This event, together with the precedents, will become a legacy to the world of motorcycling and for the region. The organisation of events with purpose is part of the FIM strategy, and this event is great example of this.

The 2022 "Ride to FIM Awards" series has now concluded - which began in Misano on 1 September with a workshop dedicated to the future of young riders, continued on 24 September with the talkshow reserved for sustainable motorcycle tourism and ended today - the focus now shifts to the FIM Awards Ceremony on Saturday 3 December in Rimini, where more than forty FIM World Champions will be awarded. Among them two Italian riders, namely FIM MotoGP World Champion Francesco Bagnaia and the FIM EnduroGP and FIM E1 Enduro World Champion Andrea Verona.
