Lancelot seeks revenge in Agueda

The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship resumes from the Portuguese round at Agueda this weekend when the best female MX racers will gather for another exciting battle. Stephanie Laier leads the series after the opening round in Bulgaria. Chiara Fontanesi is second while Maria Franke is third ahead of Larissa Papenmeier and Livia Lancelot.

Taking victory at round one in Sevlievo, Bulgaria, with a dominant performance Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Laier is now back on top of the points standings, basically the same position she finished in 2009 when she collected her maiden World Title. The German had a weekend to forget at Agueda last year as she crashed in the opening moto.

Rival Lancelot of KTM HDI took victory in Agueda last year but her weekend to forget was surely the opening round in Bulgaria where she struggled to take just fifth overall. The 2008 Women’s World Champion will be surely back into the saddle in Portugal.

By taking second in Sevlievo, Fontanesi confirmed her progression from her maiden podium in 2009 at Lierop. The Italian is yet to win a round of this series and aims at breaking Laier and Lancelot’s record – so far the only two racers to have won an overall.

Diga KTM’s Franke holds third in the Championship after a solid start but she is chased by rivals Papenmeier and Lancelot.

Kane is another rider looking for better fortunes in Portugal where she finished fifth in 2009. The Irish is now seventh in the standings after she took third in the Championship in 2009.
