Laia Sanz – Queen of Enduro

2016 FIM Women’s Enduro World Cup winner Laia Sanz – KTM is very much the Queen of Enduro having recently claimed her fifth straight Enduro World title to add to the thirteen FIM Women’s Trial World Championships that she secured earlier in her career. Fresh from her latest triumph Sanz came into the 2016 FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) with great weight on her shoulders with her making her debut in this historic event on home soil.

After three days of competition at this year’s ISDE Laia currently holds third place in the Women’s individual standings and is leading the line in helping the Spanish team retain second spot in the Women’s World Trophy Class. Speaking about her first ISDE experience Sanz explained:

“I know the ISDE is a big race and to make my debut in this event in my home country is a very special moment, but really I don’t feel any big pressure. I come here having reached my goal of winning the Women’s World title again and am really using this event as good training for Dakar.”

“The first day was really difficult as there was so much dust, I didn’t want to take any big risks and injure myself, but still I managed to hit my hand heavily on one of the track posts as I couldn’t see my way. My finger is quite swollen, but it’s OK really. I lost fifty seconds on day one because of the conditions and I made a big effort to recover that time on day two until I made a couple of mistakes.”

“The rain made day three really slippery, but like always I just try to do my best and can be quite satisfied with how my first ISDE is going so far.”
