Italy take Supermoto crown

The international circuit of Algarve hosts today the seventh edition of FIM Supermoto of Nations, a team race where the riders compete for their own Nations. The day has started with the welcome speech of Jorge Viegas, FIM Vice President, and of Dr. Wolfgang Srb, FIM-CMS Director followed by the presentation of the 14 Team and 12 Nations present at the race. The Portuguese circuit has witnessed the last appointement of the Supermoto 2012 season, a speciality introduced by FIM and Youthstream in 2003 with the European Championship at first and then in 2006 the World Championship as well. In this speciality France has gained four titles, just as Italy, while Germany gained one title. Hard challenges, a supporting crowd on the terraces and a shining sun today: the Italian team leaded by the World Champion and SMoN 2008 Champion Attilio Pignotti has won for the third time ever the Francesco Zerbi Trophy. The Italian team was aware that they were able to win today, but the chances became less with France and the Czech Republic getting such good results yesterday. Notwithstanding this Italy has demonstrated to be the most regular team and the 2012 title was won by Ivan Lazzarini (Honda), Massimo Beltrami (Honda) and Christian Ravaglia (Ktm). Second position for the French team, with Thomas Chareyre (TM), Sylvain Bidart (Honda) and Aurelien Grelier (Yamaha). Third position for the Czech Republic team with its riders Pavel Kejmar (KTM), Petr Vorlicek (CZE-TM) and Tomas Travnicek (Honda), who have hoped for a while to win the title. Fourth position for the Austrian team, thanks to Lukas Höllbacher (Ktm), Rudolf Bauer (Yamaha) and Hannes Maier (Ktm). Fifth position for the Dutch team with Devon Vermeulen (Ktm), Maik Voorwinden (Ktm) and Jaimie Van Sikkelerus (Ktm). Ends the the top ten: the British team with Matthew Winstanley (TM), James Addy (Honda) and Chris Hodgson (Ktm); the Finnish team with Toni Klem (Kawasaki), Ville Jauhiainen (Yamaha) and Asseri Kingelin (Honda); the French Junior team with Germain Vincenot-Marchal (Honda), Maxime Lacour (Yamaha) and Lucas Berthoux (Yamaha), the British Junior team with Mitchell-Thomas Malachi (TM), Lewis Cornish (Honda) and Ben Robb (Ktm); the Luxembourg team with Jordan Collard (Honda), Daniel Casoli (Honda) and Yves Frank (Honda). RACE 1(Rider1 + Rider2) Bydart takes the holeshot, followed by the Italian Ivan Lazzarini (Honda), who takes the leading position after a while followed by the Czech Tomas Travnicek (Honda), the French Silvain Bidart (Honda), the British Matthew Winstanley (TM), the French Thomas Chareyre (TM), the Czech Pavel Kejmar (Ktm), the Dutchman Devon Vermeulen (Ktm), the British junior Mitchell-Thomas Malachi (TM). After few laps the situation changes, the French World Champion Chareyre takes the leading position with his best lap 1’26.446 followed by Lazzarini and Travnicek, who end the race in this order. After them Matthew Winstanley, Pavel Kejmar, Sylvain Bidart, Devon Vermeulen, Malachi Mitchell-Thomas and Rudolf Bauer (Yamaha). In this race France is in the leading position followed by the Czech Republic and Italy. Bad luck for the Italian Christian Ravaglia (Ktm) who was involved in the problems at the start of the race and had to restart the moto, thus loosing important seconds that would be helpful for Lazzarini. Massimo Beltrami crosses the Czech and takes the leading position with his best lap 1’26.832. After them, the French Bidart tries his best to cross the italian rider on the front, defending himself by the italian rider on his back. At the end of the race here the order of the riders for the top ten: Kejmar, Beltrami, Bidart, Ravaglia, Vorlicek, Grelier, Bauer, Höllbacher, Malachi and Voorwinden. The Czech Republic takes the leading position in the provisory classification before France and Italy. After one lap Chareyre is followed by Travnicek (Honda), who falls at the fourth lap and looses a lot of positions. Third position for the Italian Ivan Lazzarini (Honda) followed by the British Matthew Winstanley (TM), the Austrian Lukas Höllbacher (Ktm), the Dutchman Devon Vermeulen (Ktm), the French Aurelien Grelier (Honda), the Italian Massimo Beltrami (Honda), the Czech Petr Vorlicek (TM), the French junior Germain Vincenot-Marchal (Honda). The World Champion Chareyre wins this race followed by the Italian Lazzarini. For the top ten: Winstanley, Vorlicek, Beltrami, Grelier, Vermeulen, Höllbacher, Cucharrera, Maier. The Portuguese Nuno Pinto (Honda) e André Carvalho (Yamaha) arrive respectively twenty-first and twenty-third. With this last race, the Italian team wins the SMoN Title for the third time.
