Italy strengthen Vintage Veterans Trophy Team lead on day three of 2022 EVT

Extending their lead in the Vintage Veterans Trophy Team competition, Team Italy were the big winners on day three of the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) in Santiago Do Cacem, Portugal. With conditions once again dry, day three of the event was also the second and last full day of action for the riders with those who finished the day completing two laps of a seventy-kilometre course, which featured a total of six enjoyable special tests.

Mirroring the second day’s Vintage Veterans Trophy Team results, Team Italy ended day three fastest, but having been pushed all the way by team Germany once again. With the two nations comfortably ahead of their nearest challengers, the combined performances of Enrico Tortoli, Giorgio Grasso, and Tulio Pellegrinelli saw the Italians end the day close to two minutes ahead of Germany’s Uwe Weber, Johannes Steinel, and Sven Roth. While anything can happen during the final day of competition, Team Italy is well positioned to secure overall Vintage Veterans Trophy Team class victory.

Behind Team Italy and Team Germany, it was the Portuguese riders Joao Fragoso, Antonio Silva, and Luis Guerra that placed third, some four minutes behind Team Germany but comfortably ahead of Team Canada, who delivered a solid ride for fourth. Team Poland in fifth was the only other Vintage Veterans Trophy Team to get all three riders to the finish of the third day.

In the Vintage Silver Vase Club Team competition, it was Gilera Club Arcore-SDM that were quickest on day three as Mauro Uslenghi, Marco Franceschetti, and Cristian Spreafico edged out MC Pantera 1 with Racing 64-Centriboet third fastest on the day. With just the final MX races to go, MC Pantera 1 riders Maurizio Bettini, Luigi Mazzoni, and Mario Graziani sit at the head of the Vintage Silver Vase Club Team results after three days of racing. Gilera Club Arcore-SDM are close behind in second with Motoclub Cerdanya 1 third.

American Fred Hoess put in the fastest Individual classification result on day three, moving to the top of the class results after three days of racing. With Hoess holding a comfortable class lead, Pedro Barradas sits second overall with Giorgio Volpi third.

With the hard work now done, the fourth and final day of competition at the 2022 FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy will see the riders take on the final day MX races.
