Italy lead the way on day two of 2022 FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy

Putting in a solid team effort on day two of the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) Italian trio Enrico Tortoli, Giorgio Grasso, and Tullio Pellegrinelli have moved to the top of the Vintage Veterans Trophy Team classification. Under bright skies, with the rain that fell during the opening day’s acceleration test having passed, day two of the annual classic enduro festival saw riders get into the action proper with a total of six special tests raced and more than one hundred and twenty kilometres ridden.

Among the pre-event favourites, Team Italy showed their class during the first full day of competition to fend off Team Germany and top the Vintage Veterans Trophy Team classification by close to thirty seconds. Continuing their good form Germany’s Uwe Weber, Johannes Steinel, and Sven Roth kept up their collective effort, and although dropping from the top spot sit in a very strong provisional runner-up position. Home favourites Team Portugal were not quite able to match the pace of the Italian and German teams, but nonetheless Joao Fragoso, Antonio Silva, and Luis Guerra sit third having enjoyed a highly positive day’s racing. Behind Portugal Team Canada hold fourth ahead of Poland, Austria, France, and Spain. Frustratingly, both France and Spain saw two of their riders fail to finish the second day of competition.

In the Vintage Silver Vase Club Team competition, MC Pantera 1 have jumped from third position following yesterday’s acceleration test to take the provisional top spot. Fastest on day two by only hundredths of a second, Maurizio Bettini, Luigi Mazzoni, and Mario Graziani hold a slender lead over Gilera Club Arcore-SDM. Motoclub Cerdanya 1 hold third, while Moto Club Pantera, France Enduro Vintage (MCL), and Hurand team Salengro are placed fourth to sixth respectively.

Ricardo Terranova holds first place in the Individual classification at the end of the second day of competition ahead of runner-up Carlo Cavalli and Fred Hoess.

Day three of the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy will see competitors take on a new course with two laps of seventy kilometres and three special tests set to challenge all riders as the event enters its second half. With more bright and sunny weather forecast, day three of the 2022 FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy looks set to deliver more close vintage action in and around the host town of Santiago Do Cacem.
