Isola 2000 – Revisited

Tomorrow will see the FIM Women’s Trial World Championship return to the French ski resort of Isola 2000, the series having visited last time in 2013 to the normally snow covered valley. Three years ago the venue hosted the second round of the campaign with the two days of competition ultimately defining the eventual champion of that year. 
 
Having missed the opening round of the 2013 championship due to a clash of events, Laia Sanz made a winning return to the series as she topped both days of the French event to immediately put herself back in the running for the title with just one counting day remaining the following weekend, again on French soil. 
 
A few days later Sanz sealed her thirteenth and final FIM Women’s Trial World Championship to date, as she made it three wins from three starts in a year when the title race saw the riders drop their worst two results. Laia has been absent from the series since that golden day as the Queen of Trial moved fully into the World of Enduro and has since become a prolific competitor in the famous Dakar Rally, even up against her male counterparts over recent years. 
 
Sanz remains a true ambassador and icon for Women in motorcycling, and whilst she will not be present in Isola 2000 this weekend her legacy lives on and strong. Fittingly the FIM Women’s Commission which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, will host a special dinner this Saturday evening in the French resort to mark this important landmark.
