In memory of Enduro legend Mika Ahola

The monument, organised by Hämeenlinna city and the Motorcycle clubs of Hämeenlinna and Riihimäki, was unveiled today Friday by three times Enduro World Champion Eero Remes and Juha Laakso, who was part of the Finnish team that won the Junior Enduro World Trophy at the ISDE in Hämeenlinna in 1996.

The monument is located in the place where the final Cross stage of the 1996 ISDE was held. In that race, Finland won the World Trophy for the first time with its team that included Mika Ahola, Kari Tiainen, Jani Laaksonen, Pekka Viljakainen, Petteri Silván and Vesa Kytönen. During his career, Mika Ahola achieved five World Championship victories and five silver and two bronze World Championship medals. He also won the ISDE seven times. Mika Ahola passed away in 2012 following complications after surgery.
