Ian Burrell receives the MBE

Winner of the 2011 FIM Road Safety award motorcyclist Ian Burrell has received the MBE from HRH Prince Charles.

In 2012 Ian was awarded the FIM Road Safety award, by then in its third year. Ian is a motorcycling paramedic in the UK – and also a motorcycle trainer. He invented the concept of the helmet medical card – something riders can write key information on and store in the liner of their helmet so it can be accessed by medical staff in an emergency.

Basic information, name, date of birth, key medical facts (such as diabetes or allergy) can be critical in an emergency.

To date over, a million cards have been issued across many countries on both sides of the Atlantic.

Other winners:
2010: Greig Craft and the AIP Foundation for low cost motorcycle safety helmets in middle and low income countries.
2011: Andrés Perez Rubio, former motorcycle racing champion, for his work in road safety in particular barrier safety on the streets.
2013: The United Kingdom Department for Transport for the SHARP star rating system of independent testing of helmets – modelled on the star rating system for cars.
2014: The KNMV (Royal Dutch Motorcycle Federation) for their work in developing scientifically proven risk awareness training for road riders.

The FIM Road Safety award is adjudicated by a panel of independent judges.
The closing date for nominations is 15th September 2015.

The winner can be:
