History will be made at Finland´s Speedway GP

This Saturday, history will be made in Tampere, Finland when for the first time ever in the world the KiSS project will be launched in a Speedway World Championship Event.

KiSS is an environmental programme launched by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), and it stands for “Keep it Shiny & Sustainable”. Previous editions of  KiSS have mainly been organised in MotoGP events, as two of the eight FIM Environmental Ambassadors are Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez. This year, the team acquired a new member as three time Speedway world champion Greg Hancock was nominated as the latest Ambassador. Greg is really excited to be able to host the first KiSS event in Speedway.

One of the most important things we have to do as athletes serving as FIM Environmental Ambassadors is to motivate the spectators at our events to take an active part in the environmental programmes implemented by the Organiser, the Federations, the FIM, etc. This coming weekend, Tampere will be hosting a festival of sporting and sustainability in which the spectators will play a very important role. For the first time, the KiSS programme will be taking place at a Speedway event. This involves a whole panoply of environmental actions from the observance of environmental standards by the riders and organisers to the use of sustainable energies, competitions on social networks, recycling efforts, and so on. I am very happy to be the spokesperson for this programme and I hope that you will all enjoy the event this weekend and join in all the sustainable activities we have organised for you.

Kattia Hernandez CIE Director
KiSS is a very versatile programme that can be adapted to different disciplines, cultures, levels of education, etc. The main aim is to turn our sports events into sustainable events with the participation of all those involved: Federations, promoters, local governments, the FIM, the riders and the spectators.  The programme is about empowering environmental actions that are already in place and developing new ones with the participation of everyone. The spectators too play a very important role, together with the power of the voices of our Environmental Ambassadors and, in this case, with the unstinting support of Greg Hancock. We are very happy with the participation of Speedway, as up to now the programme had only been carried out at various rounds of Moto GP. We are also very happy to come to Northern Europe where the quality of our events is very much recognised. We are sure that  #KiSSTampere will be a great success

Perttu Pesä – Director of Major Events of Tampere city
The FIM´s Environmental Commission approved the Speedway GP of Tampere as part of the KiSS project, which means that the event is being organised according to sustainability principles and nature is being respected in everything we do. In Tampere we have great preconditions for this, among other things, because the stadium is located in the city center so people are able to use public transport. Also, the rubbish collection at the event is organised so that the waste won´t spread into nature. KiSS Tampere will be a visible element  throughout the whole event.
