Hermunen leads S1 Qualifying in Estonia

After the summer break the FIM Supermoto  World Championship resumed in Estonia for the penultimate GP of the 2014 campaign. Previously when we have raced in Estonia it’s been at the circuit of Kuressare but for this sixth GP, the brand new circuit of Tabasalu plays host to the best supermoto riders in the world.

Coming into GP six of 2014 Mauno Hermunen of Finland has a four-point advantage over the Frenchman Thomas Chareyre as the FIM SuperMoto World Championship reaches a crucial stage of the campaign. And this means that any advantage from today’s timed training sessions would be a massive boost in confidence, or a huge physiological blow so a good day today would be key to getting off to a good start.

Right from the start Hermunen showed he was the fastest rider as he topped both the free practice sessions before charging to provisional pole in the timed training session.
Behind him was the TM Factory rider and his closest rival Thomas Chareyre with a time that was just over a half second slower than the Finn.

Third was the Yamaha of Tomas Travnicek, with Pavel Kejmar charging to fourth on his 833 Racing Team Husqvarna, just one place ahead of Ivan Lazzarini, the last GP winner on the L30 Racing machine. Sixth, and the final transfer place for Superchrono belonged to Adrien Chareyre on the Fast Wheels Aprilia.

In Superchrono, Hermunen once again proved to be the man to beat, although this time Thomas Chareyre was just three-tenths further back. Lazzarini had improved to third and will round out the front row.

There was no change in position for Pavel Kejmar who starts from the front of row two, with Adrien Chareyre and Thomas Travnicek having to be content with fifth and sixth.
