Gustrow date for young stars

FOGO FIM SPEEDWAY UNDER 21 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
FINAL 2 – GUSTROW, GERMANY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2019

The leading young riders in the world come together again in Germany on Saturday for the second round of the Fogo FIM Speedway Under 21 World Championship. It is nearly three months since the first final was held in Lublin but with only one more final to come next month, each rider will know how important it will be to claim as many points as they can in Gustrow.

Russian Gleb Chugunov and Dominik Kubera from Poland lead the scorers at this stage.  Both have been active in both Swedish and Polish senior leagues this year; Kubera for Vetlanda and Leszno, Chugunov for Wroclaw and Eskilstuna but they face a huge challenge from the following pack. Former champion Maksym Drabik is very keen to regain the title he lost surprisingly in Pardubice last year but current holder Bartosz Smektala is unlikely to surrender without a major battle.

Britain’s Robert Lambert has been enjoying several outings as a standby reserve in the Speedway Grand
Prix this year, but his progress has been restricted by the serious back injury he sustained earlier in the season. He stands in fourth place but only three points behind the leading pair and will see this meeting as a huge opportunity to take the lead.

The European under 21 winner Wiktor Lampart has hit a winning streak at the right time and could upset some of the favourites and the Scandinavian riders should find the shorter, more technical Gustrow track more to their liking than the Lublin circuit where they disappointed. Australian Jaimon Lidsey is another who can expect to collect points against his more fancied opponents.

Wild Card for this meeting will be new German Long Track Champion, Michael Hartel who will have much local support but may find the track more difficult to overcome than the ‘sandbahn’ where he excels.

Racing in Gustrow starts at 18.35 on Saturday and FIM Jury President will be Pavel Ondrasik from Czech Republic with FIM Refer4ee Piotr Lis from Poland.
