April 2012 marked the first time that the FIM Trial World Championship had ever visited Australia and it proved to be a highly successful first GP for the continent with wide spread praise from the riders about the sections they experienced. Tomorrow will mark the second Australian Grand Prix, with Toni Bou – Repsol Montesa intent on repeating the brace of wins he recorded down under two years ago. Jeroni Fajardo – Beta and Adam Raga – Gas Gas were the respective runners-up over the two days of competition two years ago, whilst Albert Cabestany – Sherco occupied the last place on the podium on both days.
Away from the main championship, it was Alexandre Ferrer – Sherco who won back-to-back days in the FIM Junior World Cup, as it was then known. His nearest two contenders over that weekend back in 2012 were Pol Tarres – Sherco and Francesc Moret – Montesa who finished in second place on Saturday and Sunday respectively. This time around Ferrer and Tarres will compete in the World Pro class.
Matching his French compatriot Ferrer, Steven Coquelin – Gas Gas was the main man on both days in the previously titled FIM Youth Trial World Cup in Oz two years ago and he will look to repeat his success as he takes his place amongst the other FIM Trial World Cup contenders on this occasion down under.
