FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy
Vissenbjerg, Denmark 7th July 2019
The young riders of the speedway world have their opportunity to shine at the FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy meeting which will be held this year in Denmark. Next Sunday afternoon will see representatives from 5 countries compete for this trophy riding on the 209m track in Vissenbjerg which hosts this event for the first time.
The competition is open to riders aged between 12 and 15 with engines restricted to unmodified mass produced, 2-stroke and single cylinder, running on unleaded petrol and a maximum of 85cc capacity.
This form of youth speedway was pioneered in the Scandinavian countries and it is no surprise that there are six representatives from the host country as well as five from Sweden and two from Norway. Australia provide two entries and Germany one.
Germany’s Norick Blödorn returns to defend the trophy he won convincingly in Poland last year with an unbeaten score. Sweden had an unhappy competition in 2018 and the Danes will look to improve their results despite the fact that they filled four of the top six places last year.
This event is part of the Track Racing Commission’s Youth Programme which includes a Long Track Gold Trophy and a Youth Speedway World Championship to be held later this month. There is no prize money or travel expenses and the riders depend on the support of their federation as well as parents, friends and sponsors. It is a great opportunity for these enthusiastic youngsters to race at the top level of their class and perhaps to further their ambitions to become professional speedway riders in the future.
FIM officials at this meeting will Petr Moravic, Jury President from Czech Republic and Poland’s Piotr Lis as referee. Racing will commence at 14.00 local time on Sunday afternoon.
