The SuperMoto paddock has been travelling a lot since the end of September: first it settled in Portugal, Portimão, on the September 25th weekend for the penultimate GP to head east later on and reach the Spanish track of Alcañiz, scene of the FIM SuperMoto of Nations on Saturday and Sunday October 1st and 2nd.
Another great event is about to kick off, and despite each Grand Prix is one of a kind, this time we can state it is going to be the key appointment of the season as the Grand Prix of France will crown the emperors of the World Championship as well as of the European Series.
This year has been pretty peculiar as there has not been a single rider able to mount on the highest step of podium at all the 5 GPs disputed so far. Basically 4 racers have been really constant and often entered in the top 3 or slightly missed it: Thomas Chareyre, Mauno Hermunen, Adrien Chareyre and Ivan Lazzarini. The Italian opening round was a fantastic weekend with extraordinary results for victorious TM Factory Racing Thomas Chareyre, Husqvarna Factory Mauno Hermunen and HM Honda Racing Ivan Lazzarini but the Busca race winner could not collect such a success in Bulgaria where he was 4th with Finnish rival snatching him the leadership and winning the GP joined by Fast Wheels ASD Adrien Chareyre and Italian Ivan Lazzarini.
The mid-season appointment was signed by the Grand Prix of Andorra and was featured by nasty weather conditions which did not affect the performance of the oldest of the Chareyre duo, Adrien, solitary leader of the race day. The French ace shared the podium with his brother Thomas and with PMR H2O Thierry Van Den Bosch. The latter conquered his one and only seasonal podium as an accident sustained during a training prevented him from taking part in the other GPs and his campaign came to a premature end. After turning another page of the calendar, the SuperMoto paddock faced the GP of Sicily and fans saw one more time the Chareyre family, Thomas and Adrien, occupying the 1st and 2nd positions with Ivan Lazzarini in 3rd and the French duo was always there at the front even in Portimão but this time they rounded off the podium and shook SHR Racing Matthew Winstanley’s hand for grasping the victory and demonstrating his inner potential.
At the moment the series leader is French Thomas Chareyre thanks to his 318 points but Adrien Chareyre is not that far with 308 points. Ivan Lazzarini is in 3rd but can count on a 16 point gap dividing him from 4th classified Mauno Hermunen.
All riders taking part in the FIM World Championship have high levels of preparation and throughout the season many of them gave proof of their talent: the young promise of the KTM 747 Motorsport Team Alexis Marie Luce, 2010 European Champ Uros Nastran of TDS Faor, Suzuki Valenti Lux Performance Christian Ravaglia, and many others. Between the unlucky protagonists of the 2011 season there is not only Thierry Van Den Bosch but also Marie Luce team mate Davide Gozzini, who is still recovering after undergoing a surgery at his right wrist.
In the UEM European Championship Freccia Team Teo Monticelli is determined to finish the campaign in the best way ever and will try to consolidate the leadership he is detaining at the moment, with a 59 point advantage over Czech Pavel Kejmar while KTM 747 Motorsport Alessandro Tognaccini completes the top three.
Cahors and its circuit already hosted the SuperMoto paddock last year as the French track was the scene of the SuperMoto of Nations. This weekend the 1550 meter long circuit will see riders battling it out for the season gran finale as only three of them will come home with the trophies of the World and European Championships.
In fact at the end of the racing weekend there will be the appointment with the Youthstream SuperMoto Awards to crown not only the S1 World Champ and UEM Champ but also the S1 Manufacturer World Champion and the top three UEM Champions going to attend the 2012 S1 racing season.
